BAM Bamboo clothing review

Subhan N

Bam Bamboo clothing is said to be eco-friendly and is an excellent choice for athletes. The fabric is very smooth against your skin and generally breathable, fast drying, and allows the sweat from your body to go away. (Although it’s important to note that lighter merino wool products are usually better in terms of drying and sweat wicking.) I’ve been testing a number of clothes that are part of BAM’s BAM Bamboo Clothing line.

In the interest of transparency Like my other reviews of kit I get the product as a courtesy and write an honest and unbiased review. There may be affiliate links that help my in some small manner to manage this website. I’m not compensated to write reviews, nor do solicit advertising for. My opinions are mine and , consequently, are personal, but I have a wealth of experience testing clothing for outdoor and sports therefore I believe in an honest review.

Is bamboo a word?

The first step is to take a look at bamboo as a material. I’ve read about it and researched the environmental benefits and disadvantages of bamboo.

BAM Bamboo clothing advantages

It is fast growing and quickly replaces all bamboos that are cultivated (some kinds of bamboo grow up to 5 cm in just an hour)

It thrives in dense forests, which means that it requires less space

BAM Bamboo clothing doesn’t require a lot of water to cultivate and does not require the use of pesticides.

It is able to absorb a significant amount of carbon dioxide. This aids in combating global warming.

BAM Bamboo clothing can be cut to look like grass, rather than removed, which means it needs less equipment

Helps soils that are prone to erosion recover

Organic bamboo is biodegradable and 100% sustainable.

Fabrics are naturally antibacterial and therefore it doesn’t require washing it often (although be sure to read about the cons below)

If grown ethically the produce can benefit local economies.

Bamboo’s cons

There are several important issues to be considered. Although bamboo is a fast-growing species and doesn’t require pesticides, it doesn’t mean all people are growing it sustainably.

In addition, even though bamboo is more eco-friendly than synthetic and cotton when it is in cultivation but this isn’t always the case for making.

There are two ways to make bamboo fabric: chemical and mechanical. the longevity of these methods differs significantly.

I’ve learned that bamboo that has been mechanically processed is called bamboo linen. It’s produced using the same method like hemp linen and flax. It’s an extremely labor-intensive procedure and the final fabric has a rough texture.

It’s been said that this type of method is not used in the general production of bamboo fabric.

The most common type of bamboo is bamboo that has been chemically processed. It is reported by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has revealed that in order to transform bamboo into a soft fabric called bamboo rayon (also known as bamboo viscose) bamboo grass stems are cut and then soaked with caustic soda. This breaks down the bamboo and transforms into threads that can be woven into a fabric.

The fabric then goes through an acidic process. This process involves the use of sodium hydroxide. It is a method that the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declares this chemical to be “extremely corrosive” and reports it has the potential to cause skin and eye allergies. Carbon disulfide is also used which has been found to cause neurodegenerative problems and also alter the reproductive system.

Additionally the chemical process consumes massive amounts of water. This is not sustainable.

In addition The claim that bamboo fabric is naturally antimicrobial qualities is brushed aside in this moment due to what’s known as an “open-cycle production”. In essence, these advantages are destroyed by chemicals.

POSITIVE IMPACT OF THE PRODUCT:

BAM Bamboo clothing lists the environmental benefits of their products.

1.5 M2 of land that is farmed without pesticides

4.3 km of emissions from driving reduced

Drinking water for 193 days savings.

It would be helpful to have them be more transparent regarding the negative consequences I believe.

If I review a product that has been worn more often than other items in my outdoor clothing collection that is a clear winner. I have decided to go with BAM Trewortha Bamboo as my BAM Trewortha Bamboo base layer above any other to use for running, walking, and cycling.

I am awestruck by the texture and feel of this fabric. It’s extremely luxurious and extremely soft against your skin. I am hoping to wear merino products against my skin, however I find them to be itchy. Certain are more breathable than others, however the BAM top isn’t the least little bit itchy.

The UK10 suits me well and is a lovely shape top. The arms are a little too short for me to be able to be able to comfortably use the thumb holes however I have arms that are long so this shouldn’t be a problem.

I love the half zip that can be closed when I’m cold, and then opened when it’s warmer.

The design and colors are stunning, too.

The performance is fantastic. I prefer the top for layering, so I may begin a run wearing an t-shirt made of polyester, the BAM baselayer, and a running jacket. I’ll take off the jacket once I’ve warmed up. The BAM top is a adequate insulation in colder weather however it allows sweat to evaporate during hot days.

If I were to compare the BAM top with cotton, it’s an excellent top that wicks sweat, however when in comparison to a 200gsm merino wool shirt, it seems like that it retains more sweat. I don’t sweat much and If you do you do, merino wool is the better option.

But, I’ve used this shirt in all types of weather conditions and for a variety of occasions and find it to be among the top performing items I own.

It’s odd that BAM describes their fabric in terms of “super absorbent”. I’m not sure the reason. It is possible that they mean that it absorbs moisture, but they should really look at where the water goes. Bamboo and cotton are not so effective in transpiring moisture and sweat like lighter-weight merino items However, I have discovered that the BAM top can remove moisture quite well.

When I stop any activity that was sweaty, the skin dries fast so that I don’t end up shaking. Some people may prefer merino due to its faster drying, but I find that the BAM the top is right.

Another advantage is that it’s not too frilly, which is a benefit of other polyester-based products. In the interest of complete testing, I put on this top during a whole week of walking and running. It was only after seven days that I began to detect any smell in my armpits.

The ability to wear clothes frequently without washing reduces pollution caused by washing machines and detergents.

The cost of PS52 is very high, but when you consider the price of many Merino product, I’d think that it is quite reasonable.

Reviews: BAM Pipet colour block crop top

The BAM color block crop top that has a racer back is made of “Enduro” fabric to offer flexibility and support. This top was designed to be low impact and features an elasticated underband as well as flatlock stitching, which means it will not rub or chafe.

Fabric 340gsm: 64 percent Bamboo Viscose 24 Organic Cotton Elastane 12.

Sizes: UK8 to UK16

Price: PS28

Purchase: BAM Pipet colour block crop top. (I get a small percentage on sales.)

POSITIVE IMPACT OF THE PRODUCT:

0.7 M2 of land that has been cultivated without pesticides

2.1 km of emissions reduced

94.9 day of water consumption savings.

It’s fitted and comfortable. I like the large chest band as well as the wide shoulder strap length. Its raceback is very comfortable. I’ve worn it to train for circuits, walking as well as for running. Even though it’s designed to be used for low-impact sports I don’t require much support because of my size therefore my crop bra works to do all my activities.

The fabric is very heavy, which means that I’m not likely to use it to run in the summer as I’ll be too warm. The fabric is great in letting sweat evaporate, and just like the base layer it won’t get excessively whiffy.

But, the material is very thick. I also have other bras for sports that dry quicker. If I ran for more than 10 miles in this top, I experienced some skin chafing because sweat remained. I’ll keep this item for activities that are less sweaty, like yoga or circuit training.

It could be worn as a bra underneath the usual sportswear and as a stand-alone crop top.

I find them to be a bit slippery and stretchy to wear when running. It’s odd, but my feet are a bit uncomfortable. they’re slipping around with the soft fabric. it is my preference to wear a padded athletic sock to run in and for mountain hiking. For everyday wear, and walking trails that are low-level they are attractive.

The colors are great too and I’ve received many good reviews about them.

I enjoy the thought for socks with a breathable design that don’t be too smelly.

The only downside one is the fact that these take more time to dry after washing unlike of my socks. So when you sweat, you may get a damp skin.
