The Sant community of Haridwar complained that at least 24 saints were either killed or gone missing in the past few years. A sadhu who had given a list of fake ascetics to Narendra Giri suddenly went missing. This happened on 16th September 2017. There was another case. Mahant Mohan Das of the nostalgic Panchayati Bada Akhara had boarded the train from Haridwar to Mumbai. But he never reached his destination. The SIT who formed to investigate the matter also did not get any clue.
Now Narendra Giri has died. The Sant community of Haridwar says that the list of fake sadhus had angered many. Narendra Giri and those close to him faced the ire of many after that. After a week of 16th September, Mahant Mohan Das disappeared. But the question was: how could a person disappear from a moving train? Now after years, people have successfully taken revenge on Narendra Giri. That is the reason why many of the citizens of India refuse to believe or find it difficult to believe that Giri has committed suicide. People said that the death of Giri was a part of a conspiracy.
Now the country’s largest investigating agency CBI has reached Prayagraj. They will take the responsibility to solve the mystery of Mahant Narendra Giri’s death. Along with this, the people also gave Mahant Narendra Giri a water samadhi. Sandeep Tiwari was the third accused arrested for the murder. He was sent to 14-day jail custody on Thursday. Actually, Mahant Narendra Giri had blamed Anand Giri, Aadhya prasad Tiwari and Sandeep Tiwari in the suicide note he left behind before he committed suicide. At the same time, the CBI reached Prayagraj to solve the murder. CBI team is meeting with SIT. The death of Narendra Giri has brought to the limelight the cases of many sages and saints of Haridwar whose death remains a mystery to date.
Mohan Das is now presumed dead by the community. Similarly, Ramdev’s guru Shankar Dev had mysteriously disappeared from Kanakha in Haridwar in July 2007. There took place many murders in the saint community which shook their core. Many of the alleged killings took place over a property dispute. On 14th April 2012, a saint of the Mahanirwani Akhara near Haridwar was murdered. His name was Sudhir Giri. He was supposedly shot dead for opposing the land deal.
In June 2001, Swami Vishnugiri and four other sadhus were supposedly murdered in Haridwar. Another sadhu named Brahmananda was also killed in the same month. Sadhu Haryananda was murdered along with his disciple in August 2002. Sadhvi Premanand also died or was rather put to death in December 2000.
