Ratan Tata’s 84th birthday is today (December 28, 2021). So, birthday wishes for the octogenarian poured in from across the country.

Senior NCP leader Praful Patel tweeted, “Warm birthday greetings to Padma Vibhushan Shri @RNTata2000 ji. Wishing him good health and happiness.”

Besides being a respected business tycoon, Ratan Tata is known for his philanthropic nature and love for dogs. Last week on Christmas, Ratan Tata shared a heartwarming message on Instagram.

The last year yet again has been a difficult one for most of us. I wanted to take this time to extend my best wishes this festive season and hope that the coming year will bring good health and joy to those near and dear,” the post read.

Ratan Tata was born on 28 December, 1937 to Naval and Sooni Tata. So, this is Ratan Tata’s 84th birthday. His father Naval Tata was the adopted grandson of Jamsetji Tata, who was the founder of the Tata Group.

The Tata scion was raised by his grandmother after his parents separated when he was just 10 years old. In 1961, Ratan Tata started his first job at Tata Steel; his work included shoveling limestone and managing the blast furnace.

In 1962, he earned a B.Arch. degree from Cornell. Later, in the same year, he worked briefly with Jones and Emmons in Los Angeles before coming back to India.

In 1975, Ratan Tata also completed the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School. The year 1981 was a turning point. In this year, the Tata scion was named Chairman of Tata Industries.

After he assumed the chairmanship of his company, Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover. Furthermore, Tata Steel acquired Corus and Tata Tea acquired Tetley. This helped the business conglomerate become a global company rather than a largely-India centric one.

Apart from being a businessman, Ratan Tata is extremely fond of flying, he also became the first Indian to pilot an F-16 Falcon in the year 2007.

He is also very fond of cars; his classic collection includes Jaguar XF-R, Mercedes Benz S-Class, Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes Benz 500 SL, and Jaguar F-Type, among others.

On Ratan Tata’s 84th birthday, many people did not know that he shares it with several other distinguished Indians. Both Ratan Tata and the late Dhirubhai Ambani — among the most prominent businessmen of the 20th and early 21st century — were born on December 28.

Ratan Tata also shares his birthday with former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. In 2015, during the Iranshah Udvada Utsav event of the Parsi community sponsored by Cyrus S Poonwalla, Ratan Tata and Arun Jaitley cut a joint birthday cake.

The Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus also shares his birthday with former Army chief Dalbir Singh Suhag. Dalbir Singh Suhag, the current Indian High Commissioner to Seychelles, served as the 25th Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army from 31 July 2014 to 31 December 2016.

Interestingly, some other distinguished people that share the birthdate with Ratan Tata include Iron Man and Spider-Man creator Stan Lee, Maggie Smith (Actress who played Prof McGonagall in Harry Potter movies).

He also shares his birthday with John Legend (Singer), Woodrow Wilson (28th US President), John von Neumann (Mathematician, Physicist), and Ma Anand Sheela.
