India and Pakistan face to face in T20 World Cup

India will be facing Pakistan for the first time in 5 years in a T20 International match at the ICC t20 World Cup 2021. On Friday, ICC announced the groups for the T20 World Cup. The ICC (Indian Cricket Council) did that. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Onam and the United Arab Emirates decided to host the event from October 17 to November 14.

Grouping of India and Pakistan together

The ICC placed both India and Pakistan in the same group because they picked the teams based on their team rankings as of March 20, 2021. The ICC would decide the remaining two teams which would be present in each group after the Round 1 of the ICC T20 World Cup was complete.

India and Pakistan in 2016

India enjoys a superiority of 5-0 against Pakistan across all the T20 World Cups played so far till 2021. The last T20 match played between these two countries was in 2016 during the T20 World Cup. The venue was Eden Gardens, Kolkata. India defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets and emerged victoriously.

Round 1 of ICC T20 World Cup

In round 1, there will be 8 teams including the automatic qualifiers Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They will play against the 6 teams who booked their slots through a qualifying event in 2019 in the United Arab Emirates. Ireland, Netherlands, and Namibia join Sri Lanka in Group A while Oman, PNG, and Scotland join Bangladesh in Group B.

India and Pakistan in group 2 of Super-12 groups

Group 1 consists of defending champions West Indies placed alongside 2010 champions England, Australia, and South Africa. There will also be two qualifiers from Round 1 joining them. Group 2 comprises New Zealand, Afghanistan  2009 champions Pakistan, 2007 winners India as well as two qualifiers from Round 1. This Super 12 stage is to start from 23rd October.

If everything goes according to this schedule, one thing is confirmed. It is that the first match of team India will take place on 24th October. Dubai will be the venue of this matchnand the opponent of India will be Pakistan. Ind will be facing New Zealand in their next and second match which will also take place in Dubai itself. All the matches of team India will start at 7:30 pm Indian time.

The BCCI president and Sourav Ganguly were delighted upon Onam being part of the mega event. The ICC’s acting CEO Geoff Allardice said, “We are delighted to announce the groups for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. There are some great matchups offered by the groups and it starts to bring the event to life for our fans. It is our first multi-team event since the onset of the global pandemic draws closer.”
