Kapil Dev was the country’s first captain to win a World Cup in cricket. He was all praises about Jasprit Bumrah. Kapil called Jasprit’s achievement sensational. He did so because he was impressed by the pacer’s actions and the kind of pitches he has bowled in.
At the time of the fourth Test match at the Oval between India and England, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah caught his 100th wicket. This made him the quickest Indian pacer to complete a century of wickets in the longest format. This broke the records of one of India’s greatest fast bowlers of all time, Kapil Dev. So, this was a feat for Bumrah. The former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev had taken 25 Tests to pick up 100 Test wickets. This record stood tall for over 40 years. This record happened in 1980. However, Bumrah broke the record by taking 100 wickets in 24 games. This was a leap towards making a new record for his fellow teammates and other cricketers.
Kapil Dev, India’s first cricket World Cup-winning captain lavished praises on Bumrah because of his actions. He was not at all upset that his world record had been broken. He was proud that a fellow Indian could do so. When interviewed by the ABP News, Kapil said, “Absolutely brilliant. I keep saying that our pitches have become a lot more favorable. That is why so many fast bowlers are emerging in the country. Despite not having their main strike bowler, India has the type who creates an impact. This is when Bhuvneshwar is not even there.”
He applauded the cricketer’s performance. He said, “I would really like to praise Bumrah because I know what it takes to pick 100 wickets on such surfaces, to go with the fact that it is not easy to bowl with that kind of action. Despite that, he has made such an impact on the Indian team. Hats off to him.” Bumrah has always been a special force in limited-overs cricket for India, but ever since he made his Test debut back in 2018, the fast bowler represented himself like a beast on the cricket grounds. In the August of 2019, Bumrah became the quickest Indian bowler to pick up 50 Test wickets. He also became the country’s only third bowler to grab a Test hat trick after Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh.
When asked about Bumrah, Kapil added, “When he began, we wondered whether he would be able to play Test cricket for India. Of course, he was good in ODIs and T20Is. But ever since he entered the cauldron of Test cricket, he has been sensational, be it in West Indies, England, or Australia. You can say that he is the world’s top bowler.”
