5 players who can replace Virat as the new RCB captain

A bomb was dropped on Sunday evening. It was when Virat Kohli announced the fact that he will not continue as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). That is, he will stop being captain after the completion of this year’s IPL in the United Arab Emirates. Virat Kohli made this announcement a week after he decided to step down as India’s T20 captain after the T20 World Cup. Kohli has been leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2013. But he failed to lead the side to their inaugural maiden title.

There is a possibility that the next captain of RCB will get selected from the mega auction next year. However, 5 players have come into view who could be the next year’s skipper. They are as follows:

Yuzvendra Chahal- This leg spinner is 31 years old. He has been in the RCB setup for a long time. He has been playing on small grounds. But still, Chahal has been Kohli’s go-to bowler on many occasions. Chahal might bring a fresh, bowler-centric perspective. This could be useful and might be the need of the hour for an RCB team whose bowling woes are well-documented.

Glenn Maxwell– The nationality of this cricketer is Australia. He is an all-rounder and knows very well how to lead sides. In the past, he had led the Punjab Kings and the Melbourne Stars. Right now, he is playing his first season in the RCB. As a result, things have changed for him. Before joining RCB, he was out of form. But after that, he got back in touch in the few games which he played earlier this year in India.

Devdutt Padikkal– This player is young and therefore has age on his side. Over the past couple of seasons, his performances have been promising as well. Having hot his maiden IPL ton earlier in the year, his stocks are on the rise. There is another factor that works in his favor. It is the fact that he is a local boy who knows the conditions better than most. Keeping his age in mind, there would be other senior players to guide him.

AB de Villiers– South African superstar AB de Villiers is one of the names which will forever remain synonymous with the franchises for RCB. This player has been putting the team out of the crunch spots for years. He has done a commendable job for the team. He is one of the most experienced players of RCB. If Kohli steps down, Mr. 360 is the best man to handle the team.

David Warner– For this player, things are not going very well in the IPL right now. He lost his captaincy midway during the Indian phase of IPL 2021. He also lost his place in the playing XI of Sun Risers Hyderabad. However, there are good points that make his case of taking the given charge really tall. Those are: he led the SRH to an IPL victory in 2016 and won the IPL orange cap thrice. But it is doubtful as to how much RCB management will trust the Australian star.
