Ipsita

Suryakumar Ashok Yadav, who was born on 14th September 1990 is an Indian International cricketer.

Who is Suryakumar Yadav?

Suryakumar plays for India in the ODI and T20I structure. In terms of domestic cricket, he represents Mumbai. He is a part of Mumbai Indians in the IPL  (Indian Premier League). This person is a versatile batsman who is right-handed and also a spin bowler. Previously, he played for Kolkata Knight Riders. He made his international Twenty20 debut against England on March 14, 2021. This player also made his international One Day debut for India against Sri Lanka on 18th July 2021.

Suryakumar’s Test team call-up

Suryakumar Yadav will be flying to England along with opener Prithvi Shaw. It is so because he has received his maiden Test team call-up. They will be going as replacements for the three players. The team management replaced them as they were injured. They are Shubham Gill, Washington Sundar, and Avesh Khan.

Shubham suffered shin splints as he was playing in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. Washington exasperated his finger injury and Khan dislocated a thumb during the warm-up game against County XI. Jayant Yadav, the off-spinner was supposed to go with them to the UK as Washington’s replacement but until now, the team management has decided to send only Suryakumar and Prithvi.

BCCI office-bearer’s state on Yadav and Prithvi

A senior BCCI office-bearer confirmed what the management had decided. He said to the PTI, “Yes, Prithvi and Surya are flying to the UK from Sri Lanka. Jayant was also supposed to go but there has been some change in plans due to quarantine requirements. Jayant is now not going. Both players will have a bubble to bubble transfer from Colombo to London. Whether they will fly in the middle of the T20 Internationals (Shaw and Suryakumar are part of the team in Sri Lanka) or post that is being worked out.”

Use of Suryakumar in the Test series

Suryakumar’s assertive batting already had a chance of being used at some point in the series. This was so because Ajinkya Rahane’s hamstring injury kept the team concerned. Also, no fast bowler was brought as there were already seven speedsters in the UK for the Tests and the net sessions.

India’s concern regarding Suryakumar Yadav

The players have already played two matches of the Test series. India has taken a winning seat at Lord’s. After this, they are moving to Leeds. The entire team is ready for the third test match. It will take place today on 25th August 2021. But India is concerned about the poor form of the middle-order batsman Suryakumar. The citizens are thinking about whether Surya will be given a chance of making his Test debut.

Virat Kohli’s words on Suryakumar Yadav

Even though the entire India had their doubts, the team captain, Virat Kohli made it clear that Yadav will also come with them. Virat Kohli, Cheteswar Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane are three of those star batsmen who have been struggling for a long time. During this, there was a talk of including Yadav in the middle order. But before the Test, Virat assured that he won’t disturb the winning combination.

When questioned about the change in the team before the series in a pre-match conference, he replied, “We have no reason to change anything (in terms of team combination). There is no need to change the winning combination unless someone is hurt, etc.” He was also asked about the best chance of winning the series in England. To this, he said, “Does it depend on the strength of the opposition? Even when their key players are playing, we still feel we can beat anyone. We don’t wait for the opposition to weaken.”
